HOMEIRA GOLDSTEIN and TIME4ART
to PRESENT Lita Albuquerque “OUT OF THE BLUE”
November 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019
Manhattan Beach, CA, April 19, 2019 – Homeira Goldstein and TIME4ART with support of the Manhattan Beach Art Center are thrilled to present “OUT OF THE BLUE” an exhibition featuring a collection of video works from the archives of internationally renowned painter, sculptor, installation and performance artist, Lita Albuquerque.
Born in Santa Monica and raised in Tunisia and Paris, Albuquerque’s work questions our place in the enormity of infinite space and eternal time. Her video pieces examine the liminal process between light and space, absorbing the audience into the artist’s self-created cosmos.
Envisioned by Homeira Goldstein, the exhibition features works from some of the artist’s most monumental video projects, inspired by Albuquerque’s perpetual relationship to light and space, as well as the surprising elements that may unfold within her work. OUT OF THE BLUE invites you to experience the world through the various lenses of the artist.
With a BFA in Art History from UCLA, Albuquerque emerged on the California art scene in the 1970s as part of the Light and Space movement and won acclaim for her epic and poetic ephemeral pigment art pieces.
She is one of the rare artists and humanists who are responsible for thoughtfully and imaginatively placing the elemental concepts for a living and functional cosmology for 21st century culture within public consciousness.
Albuquerque is a noted educator and has been on the core faculty of the Fine Art Graduate Program at Art Center College of Design for the last 30 years. In the summer of 2018, she participated in the Safiental Biennale in the Swiss Alps with Transparent Earth, part I of a two-part project which will culminate at its antipode at the bottom of the sea off the coast of New Zealand. And most recently was part of an exhibit at the Musee de la Monnaie in Paris, France.
This exhibition is presented by TIME4ART, a non-profit art educational organization in Manhattan Beach, California with a mission of enhancing cultural art awareness in the South Bay and Greater Los Angeles.
“Our heartfelt thanks to Manhattan Beach Art Center for their spirit of comradery and community.”
